Martin Beaulieu and Sophie Mangado like untold stories, share a boundless curiosity, and feel a need to recount.
Images and words complement each other to report an unvarnished reality.
MARTIN likes:
– to observe quietly
– to consider his subject other than through lenses
– intuition and spontaneity
– pre-digital era (but he’s working on it…)
A freelance photographer for fifteen years, he has collaborated with several medias and organizations (Canadian Geographic, Discovery, ID Magazine, High Life Magazine, The Sunday Times, Doctors Without Borders, Canadian International Development Agency, International Red Cross, Amnesty International…).
His work has been exhibited:
– 2010/2011 – HAITI EXPOSED, Montreal and Quebec province, collective exhibition long with the World Press Photo exhibition
– 2004/2006 – FROM INDIFFERENCE TO ACTION… TELL ME THE STORY OF AIDS, Montreal, Toronto, New York, Geneva (collaboration with Doctors Without Borders)

SOPHIE likes:
– to venture on unbeaten paths
– to record the story each one is to tell
– to fly in the face of conformity
– endless and twisted sentences (but she’s working on it…)
Sophie studies journalism at Montreal University. She was a social worker for 7 years before getting back to school. She is as well Pipeline Photo Production’s administrator.
Martin and Sophie don’t like :
– “gutter-centric” focus
– medias commodification
And there’s no way to make them work on that.

Avec une curiosité sans bornes et un désir de raconter le monde, Martin Beaulieu et Sophie Mangado aiment aller à la rencontre d’histoires souvent tues.
Par la complémentarité de la photographie et du récit, ils témoignent de la réalité, sans fard et sans artifice.
MARTIN aime :
– être un observateur discret
– regarder son sujet autrement qu’à travers un viseur
– l’intuition et la spontanéité
– l’ère pré numérique (mais il se soigne…)
Depuis 15 ans il promène son regard de photographe indépendant pour le compte de différentes publications et organisations (Canadian Geographic, Discovery, ID Magazine, High Life Magazine, The Sunday Times, Médecins Sans Frontières, l’Agence Canadienne de Développement International, la Croix-Rouge Internationale, Amnistie Internationale…).

SOPHIE aime :
– l’inconfort des sentiers non battus
– écouter l’histoire que chacun a à raconter
– faire des pieds de nez au conformisme
– les phrases longues et compliquées (mais elle se soigne…)
Sophie étudie le journalisme à l’Université de Montréal. Elle a été travailleuse sociale pendant 7 ans, avant de reprendre le chemin des écoliers. Elle est aussi l’administratrice de Pipeline Photo Production.
Martin et Sophie n’aiment pas :
– le misérabilisme
– la marchandisation de l’information
Et ils sont incurables.
